Hello and welcome to the newly revamped Letters of Intuition, née Letters of Recommendation, a missive of tips, tricks, and ideas about intuition, all gleaned from four-plus years of research and personal crash test dummying everything from Reiki to tarot to past life regression to hypnosis to psychedelic exorcism, and much much more.
Don’t fret, my pets, you’ll still get a healthy dose of my signature blend of dopiness, a gimlet-eyed take on the humiliating project of existence, and culture vulture recommendations galore (and dumb things you can buy on Amazon for less than ten bucks). Just think of this newsletter as a more frequent, more useful iteration of what you already love—ME!
So while everyone is “circling back” on their bullshit and before the window slams shut on cutesy infographics of Ins and Outs for ’25, may I present….
What’s in and what’s out for you in 2025?!
Be your January wet or dry, may I recommend filling your cup with…
Katherine May on Voices in the River
Rita Moreno on Wiser Than Me, esp the part when asked what she wished she’d realized as a younger person: “I’m so fucking smart!” and some BTS on MLK’s “I Have a Dream”?!
This is the truest thing that’s ever been written about publishing a book, and I sent it to all my author girlies.
Best American Essays is fire this year.
The Diana Chronicles by Tina Brown. Even if you *think* you’re not interested in Royals (yuh think yuh bettah than me?!), trust, this book is a masterclass in gossip. As a work of research and reporting, I bow down.
As a work of writing, may I offer:
“Ever since the abdication fiasco it had been much safer for the monarchy to be boring, and the Queen was striving to keep it that way. Her own social life was always carefully unadventurous. Childhood friends, horsey folk, courtier families. No one could really envy those royal picnics in the rain at Balmoral, those disaffected corgis, those drafty evenings working on enormous jigsaw puzzles or playing tiddlywinks after a brisk day slaughtering wildlife (Brown 88).”
THOSE DISAFFECTED CORGIS!!!!
“Topless Modeling on New Year’s Eve” by Eileen G’Sell
I saw Babygirl in Florida and was subject to some real time whisper-shout Republican Boomer film criticism: “He’s treating HER like she’s A DOG!”
Harris is waiting for me to leave my husband but I’M NOT DOING IT, HARRIS, STOP CALLING ME!!!! Tracy Clark-Flory, as ever, wrote the smartest thing I’ve read about the movie.
Pre-order Everyday Intuition, won’t you? You shan’t be sorry!!!
And a big thank you to Christopher Backs and Zoe Banks for design help, you’re too good to me.
